What changed at Cursor
Cursor is an AI code editor built on VS Code, from Anysphere, which Cursor announced in August 2026 had been acquired by SpaceX. Its pricing page now lists one subscription shared with Grok and X: Free ($0, with “limited agent requests” and “limited Chat requests”), Plus ($8 a month, Grok models only), Premium ($30), Super ($100) and Ultra ($200), plus Teams from $30 per user. Every tier includes a usage pool that refreshes weekly. Third-party models, such as GPT, Claude and Gemini, are “not included in the monthly prices shown and must be purchased separately” at API list price. Cursor's docs say existing Hobby, Pro, Pro+, Ultra and Teams subscribers keep their plans.
None of that makes Cursor worse as an editor: Tab completion, inline edits and its agents are strong, and many people will happily pay. But if you came to Cursor for the agent and want GPT-class models without a bill, there are other ways to get that.
What OmniRush gives you instead
- Frontier models at no cost: GPT 6 Astra (the default), GPT 6.1 Sol and GPT 6 Sol. Every chat starts on GPT 6 Astra. Usage limits apply, and a request may be served by an equivalent or newer model while OmniRush tests models or manages capacity, as the Terms say.
- A daily allowance that refills every day, with no card and no paid tier to upgrade to.
- A desktop app for Windows (x64), macOS (Apple silicon) and Linux (x64 and arm64, as .deb, AppImage or Arch package): point it at a folder and describe the task.
- Swarm agents: several agents split one task and hand you one summary.
- A command-line tool (`npm i -g omnirush@latest`, Node.js 22.19 or newer) for Windows, macOS and Linux, built on the open-source opencode engine.
- In the CLI, guarded by default: git writes, destructive commands and sudo ask before they run.

The honest trade-offs
OmniRush is funded by brand ads, and data use described in our privacy policy. Cursor offers Privacy Mode to every user, free or paid, under which your data is not used for training by Cursor. If you work on an employer's code, a client's code or anything confidential, a paid tool with a no-training setting is the safer choice.
Other things to know before you switch:
- OmniRush is not an editor. There is no Tab completion and no IDE extension. You can keep your editor open beside it, or keep Cursor for editing and use OmniRush for agent tasks.
- OmniRush is for people 18 or older. Sign-up needs a GitHub account at least 7 days old; most sign-ups are approved right away, and a few are held for a person to review.
- The allowance is generous for daily work but has a limit, and OmniRush may change allowances or models, as our Terms say.
- You use the models OmniRush serves. You cannot add your own API key or a local model, and OmniRush does not connect to MCP servers.
- One account per person.
How to switch
- Create your account and connect your GitHub account.
- Read the Terms and the Privacy Policy, which together are the data agreement, and accept them when you sign up.
- Download the desktop app from the download section, or install the CLI with npm i -g omnirush@latest.
- Sign in, open your project folder and describe the task as you would to Cursor's agent: the bug, the files involved, and how to check the fix.
- Review the diff in your editor, run your tests, and commit when you are happy.
A project with an AGENTS.md file keeps it: the agent reads it, and OmniRush adds its own built-in guides for setup, tests, refactors and reviews.
