The short answer

Pick Claude Code if you want Anthropic's Claude models, already pay for a Claude plan, or need commercial terms under which your code is not used for training by default. Pick OmniRush if you want a capable agent with frontier GPT models at no cost. It is funded by brand ads, and data use described in its privacy policy.

Price and what you give in return

Claude Code is a paid product. Anthropic's setup guide says it “requires a Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise, or Console account” and that “the free claude.ai plan does not include Claude Code access”. On Claude's pricing page, Pro costs $17 a month when billed yearly or $20 billed monthly, Max starts at $100 a month for five times Pro's usage (Max 20x is $200 a month), and Team seats start at $20 to $25. You can also use it with API billing through the Console or a cloud provider.

OmniRush charges nothing. Every account gets an allowance of frontier-model work that refills every day, with no card and no paid tier. It is funded by brand ads, and data use described in our privacy policy.

Models

Claude Code runs Claude. Its model settings list the aliases opus, sonnet, haiku and fable, and the default model on Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise and the Anthropic API is Opus 5.5. It does not document other vendors' models.

OmniRush serves its own catalog of OpenAI models: GPT 6 Astra (the default), GPT 6.1 Sol and GPT 6 Sol. Every chat starts on GPT 6 Astra, and you can switch per chat or per run (`-m` in the CLI). It is not a bring-your-own-key tool: you use the models OmniRush serves, and our Terms allow a request to be served by an equivalent or newer model while we manage capacity.

Where each one runs

Claude Code has the wider reach. Anthropic documents a native installer, Homebrew, WinGet, apt, dnf, apk and npm; macOS 13 or later, Windows 10 1809 or later (natively or in WSL) and common Linux distributions; extensions for VS Code and JetBrains; a desktop app; Claude Code on the web; and the Claude mobile apps.

OmniRush has two clients: a desktop app for Windows (x64), macOS (Apple silicon) and Linux (x64 and arm64, as .deb, AppImage or Arch package), and a command-line tool for Windows, macOS and Linux you install with `npm i -g omnirush@latest` (it needs Node.js 22.19 or newer). The desktop app adds swarm agents, several agents working on one task side by side with one summary at the end. There is no IDE extension, and OmniRush does not connect to MCP servers, which Claude Code supports.

Open source and licences

Claude Code has a public GitHub repository, but its licence file reads “© Anthropic PBC. All rights reserved” and puts use under Anthropic's Commercial Terms of Service. It is not open source.

The OmniRush desktop app's source is public on GitHub under MIT terms (one folder, ee/, has its own licence), and every build is published there with checksums. The agent engine in both OmniRush apps is a branded build of opencode, used under the MIT License. The OmniRush service itself, the models and the account server, is not open source.

Data

Anthropic's data-usage page says it trains new models on data from Free, Pro and Max accounts when the user's setting allows it, including Claude Code sessions, and that it does not train on code or prompts sent under commercial terms unless the customer opts in. Retention is 30 days, or five years for consumer accounts that allow training.

OmniRush is funded by brand ads, and data use described in our privacy policy.

Which one should you use?

  • Choose Claude Code for work under an employer's or client's confidentiality rules, when you need Claude models, IDE integration or MCP, or when you already pay for a Claude plan.
  • Choose OmniRush for personal projects, learning, open-source work and research where sharing the session is fine, when you want frontier GPT models without paying, or when you want swarm agents in a desktop app.
  • You can use both: a paid tool for confidential work, and OmniRush for the rest.

Questions

Is OmniRush a free version of Claude Code?

No. OmniRush is a separate product from a different company and runs OpenAI's GPT models, not Claude. It is funded by brand ads, and data use described in its privacy policy.

Can I use Claude Code for free?

Not on the free Claude plan: Anthropic's setup guide says Claude Code needs a Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise or Console account. With a Console account you pay for API usage.

Can I use my own API key in OmniRush?

No. OmniRush serves its own model catalog: GPT 6 Astra, GPT 6.1 Sol and GPT 6 Sol.
